Oftentimes, I forget to blog about the everyday things.
We make a lot of stuff in this house that never makes it to post. For example, my weekly chicken cutlets? Never blogged it. My baked salmon? Nope, not today. Oh, wait- how about my turkey meatballs with leeks and spinach? Exactly. Maybe it’s because these things are so routine I no longer find them interesting. But perhaps you will? This snack mix is the perfect example of common neglect. I make a batch every 1-2 weeks depending on how much we go through. We enjoy it by the handful.
I separate the mix into individual bags for on the go convenience.
All of the ingredients can be found at Trader Joe’s. And yes, I live in that store.
- mini multiseed rice crackers
- organic whole dried cranberries
- roasted unsalted cashews
- chocolate covered sunflower seeds
The multiseed crackers (those round things) are flavored with tamari which gives the mix that deep, salty flavor. They’re also gluten free. If you can’t find them, a similar sub would be those funky shaped oriental rice crackers. You could also use mini M&M’s for the chocolate covered sunflower seeds too. I combine everything together in one big dish and then portion it out accordingly. Altogether, I think it takes about 5 or 6 minutes. It’s great to have a healthy snack all set and ready to go for whenever you need it.
This is what I grab at 3 o’clock when I’m craving a little something. I’m a total sucker for salty + sweet.
Tips:
- The measurements in this recipe are meant as a guide. Play around to suit your taste.
- I double checked the product section on the Trader Joe’s website, and all of the ingredients are gluten free.

This is for sure is the perfect afternoon pickmeup – and we have a new Trader Joes nearby to explore!

Oh really? You’re going to have fun in that store. I bet you can make a nice care package of goodies to send your daughter… (I just did that for someone so it’s on the brain) What’s up with this rain we’re having by the way? xx

Chocolate covered sunflower seeds? Oh, I want!! I’ve never heard of such a glorious thing… but then again, we don’t have the wonderful Trader Joe’s over here in Australia. Something needs to be done about that. This is a lovely snack mix Em, I love everything about it! At the moment I’m making gigantor batches of hummus every week and carrying around little boxes with carrot sticks and multi-seed rice crackers. Oh, and dark chocolate buttons with roasted almonds and cranberries… those delicious ruby red pieces of joy!! This is a beautiful post. Totally get the omission of everyday cooking stuff, I do it too (mostly as to prevent my husband from suffering the disappointment of lukewarm food that’s been photographed for five minutes!). Love the sound of the turkey meatballs though… you need to share that one! xxx

Can we just talk about the fact that you said gigantor? I thought I was the only one who used that word!! Love it. Chocolate buttons with almonds and cranberries sounds mighty fine to me. Do you make them yourself? I might want to start hanging out in your bag ;)

I love trader Joe’s and go all the time and have never seen the chocolate covered sunflower seeds, going to have to buy me some.
Emilie says
Oh Cheri, I hope you find them! In my TJ’s, they have them stocked right above the frozen food section with all of the rest of the candy and chocolates. I’m pretty sure they will carry it over by you as well. They’re delicious :)

I live almost 2 hours away from TJ’s, but when I go down there, I stock up on those chocolate covered sunflower seeds. LOVE them! Your snack mix looks awesome! Pinned and Stumbled :)

Isn’t Trader Joe’s the best? When we lived in the city (far from a TJ location) I used to do the same thing- I would stock up and take a cab home! I’m completely obsessed with those sunflower seeds. They’re the perfect sized little treat when you’re craving something sweet ;)
