how to make an egg carton cupcake holder

This is probably one of my favorite foodie-type crafts yet.

All you have to do is fill up some empty egg cartons with a dozen mini muffins or cupcakes. Stack them on top of each other, throw them in a bag, and head off to wherever you need to go. They transport like a dream. Since each cupcake has their own individual ‘seat’ they will remain securely fastened and will not tip over. No more struggling with that giant plastic carrier or tenting plates with foil (never works). Plus, you can throw it away when you’re done.

I’ve used ¬†this for school birthday parties, work functions, play-dates, potluck, hostess gifts, road trips, picnics, etc. There’s a lot you can do. These would actually make cute centerpieces for a brunch gathering‚Ķ Easter perhaps?

Just one bit of advice- if you’re making cupcakes, don’t go crazy with the frosting or pile it on mile high with the decorations. You want the lid to close without smushing the tops.

This totally rules.

I’ve been meaning to drop in to tell you that my son and I borrowed your clever and highly functional egg carton holder idea to store mini muffins for his school bake sale – (a fundraiser to support the school musical). I did take a picture for you but truly, it was not the right time of day and it did not turn out nearly as luminously as your photos here :) but all to say, we love this idea and will definitely use it again! Thanks Emilie.

Hi Kelly! I’m so glad that it worked out for you. And no worries about the picture!! I’m sure it was just fine. As long as the idea was easy and functional that’s all that matters. Thanks for the feedback too- I always appreciate it :)
